Sapiens IAS Google Ads Case Study: 560 Admissions Across Anthropology & Zoology Optional on ₹14.12 Lakh Ad Spend

Sapiens IAS, founded in 2007 by Pradip Sarkar, teaches Anthropology and Zoology Optional for the UPSC Civil Services Exam. Over 12 months, its Google Ads recorded 1,307 enquiries across both subjects, and Sapiens IAS reported 560 admissions from them — a blended ₹2,522 of ad spend per admission.

The real story sits under that blended number: an Anthropology admission cost ₹2,807, while a Zoology admission cost ₹1,970. Below is every number for both subjects, side by side — the same level of detail MgiWebzone, an education marketing agency, gives every coaching institute, tuition centre and education consultant we work with.

Admissions are reported by Sapiens IAS. Google Ads numbers and client-reported numbers are labelled separately throughout this page.

The Number Owners Ask About First

What One Admission Cost on Google Ads for a Two-Subject UPSC Coaching Institute

Most coaching owners want one answer first: "If I spend on Google Ads, what does one student cost me?" For Sapiens IAS, the blended answer is ₹2,522 of ad spend for every admission.

But a blended number can hide what's really going on. Split by subject, an Anthropology Optional admission cost ₹2,807 and a Zoology Optional admission cost ₹1,970 — a gap of ₹837 per student, at the same institute, on the same platform, in the same 12 months.

Where did the ₹837 gap come from?

Zoology clicks cost less on average (₹41.94 vs ₹59.28), and a bigger share of Zoology clicks became enquiries (5.18% vs 4.61%). So a Zoology enquiry cost ₹809.42, against ₹1,285.67 for Anthropology. Anthropology turned more of its enquiries into admissions (45% vs 40%), which narrowed the gap — but didn't close it.

About the Client

About Sapiens IAS: Anthropology & Zoology Optional Coaching Since 2007

Sapiens IAS was founded in 2007 by Pradip Sarkar. The institute teaches two UPSC Civil Services optional subjects — Anthropology and Zoology.

Students can join through a classroom course or a live online course, and there's a test series for both subjects.

So it's one institute — but two subjects, each with its own students, its own searches and its own cost of getting an admission.

The Challenge

What Makes Google Ads for Two UPSC Optional Subjects Different

Running Google Ads for one optional subject is one job. Running it for two subjects at the same institute, over a full year, brings a few problems of its own.

1. One Budget, Two Subjects

Of the ₹14.12 lakh total, ₹9.59 lakh (67.9%) went to Anthropology and ₹4.53 lakh (32.1%) to Zoology. Every rupee on one subject is a rupee not spent on the other, so each subject's results have to be seen on their own.

2. Same Reach, Different Response

Both subjects' ads were shown almost the same number of times — 1,17,148 vs 1,16,844 impressions. Yet Anthropology got 15,918 clicks and Zoology 10,541. Equal reach didn't mean equal response.

3. A Blended Number Can Mislead

₹2,522 per admission looks like one clean answer. But it sits between ₹2,807 and ₹1,970. Without subject-level reporting, an owner would never see that ₹837 gap — or plan around it.

4. Admissions Spread Across the Year

Admissions for both subjects came in across 7 windows, from 22nd June right through to 21st June of the next year. A short burst of ads in one season would have missed a large share of students.

Running Google Ads for More Than One Course?

If all your courses sit inside one blended report, you may not know which course is costing you more per student. We can go through your current setup and show you, course by course.

For coaching institutes, tuition centres, competitive exam institutes and education consultants.
Our Approach

How the Google Ads Campaign Was Set Up and Measured

The two subjects were never judged on one combined total. Each subject's results were reported on their own, and the year was mapped into admission windows to see when students actually joined.

We call each window a "Time Zone" (TZ). It has nothing to do with clocks — it just means a stretch of the year when students are actively deciding.

1
Report each subject on its ownAnthropology and Zoology numbers were kept apart at every stage — spend, clicks, enquiries and admissions.
2
Map the admission calendarThe 12 months were divided into 7 admission windows, so admissions for both subjects could be seen window by window.
3
Decide what counts as an enquiryAn enquiry (a Google Ads "conversion") meant a real action after the click — a form fill, a call or a message.
4
Stay visible at the top of Google54.99% of Anthropology's and 68.29% of Zoology's ad impressions appeared in the very first ad position.
5
Pass enquiries to Sapiens IAS's counselling teamThe institute's own team followed up, and reported 336 Anthropology and 224 Zoology admissions.

This is the part a blended report would have hidden completely.

Zoology Optional

Anthropology took 67.9% of the spend and brought 60% of all admissions — 112 more students than Zoology, at a higher cost per student.

Why this matters if you run more than one course

"Cheapest per student" and "most students" are not always the same course. When each course is reported separately, you can decide where your next rupee should go — instead of guessing from one blended number.

What this means for your own admission calendar

Every coaching institute, tuition centre and education consultancy has its own admission seasons — they depend on the course, the exam, the city and the session. The lesson isn't to copy Sapiens IAS's calendar. It's to know your own, and plan your budget around it.

Both subjects needed almost the same number of clicks to get one admission — 47.4 for Anthropology and 47.1 for Zoology. The difference in cost per admission came mostly from how much each click cost.

Read the Numbers Correctly

What These Google Ads Numbers Mean for a Coaching Owner

Ad reports are full of short forms. Here's what each one means in plain words, using Sapiens IAS's own numbers (Anthropology / Zoology).

Impressions

1,17,148 / 1,16,844

How many times the ads were shown to people searching on Google. Almost equal for both subjects.

Clicks

15,918 / 10,541

How many times people clicked an ad and came through to learn more.

Click-Through Rate

13.59% / 9.02%

Out of the times the ads were shown, the share that led to a click.

Cost Per Click

₹59.28 / ₹41.94

The average amount paid to Google each time someone clicked an ad.

Enquiries (Conversions)

747 / 560

Recorded actions after a click — a form fill, a call or a message.

Conversion Rate

4.61% / 5.18%

The reported share of clicks that turned into an enquiry.

Cost Per Enquiry

₹1,285.67 / ₹809.42

What one enquiry cost on average — the first step towards the cost of one student.

Search Click Share

48.35% / 48.35%

Clicks the ads actually got, compared with the estimated clicks they were eligible to get. It is not a share of all searches for the subject.

Absolute Top Impression Rate

54.99% / 68.29%

The share of the ads' impressions that appeared in the very first ad position, above the regular search results.

Admissions / Conversions Ratio

45% / 40%

Reported admissions against recorded enquiries. Roughly 9 in 20 for Anthropology, 2 in 5 for Zoology.

Cost Per Admission

₹2,807 / ₹1,970

The ad spend behind each admission Sapiens IAS reported — the number most owners care about.

Total Ad Spend

₹9.59L / ₹4.53L

Everything spent on Google Ads over 12 months — ₹14,12,368.16 across both subjects.

What Stands Out

What This UPSC Optional Coaching Google Ads Campaign Shows

₹837

Two Subjects, Two Very Different Costs

A Zoology admission cost ₹1,970 and an Anthropology admission ₹2,807. A single blended figure of ₹2,522 would have hidden that gap completely.

304

Same Reach, Different Clicks

The two subjects' impressions differed by just 304. But Anthropology's 13.59% click-through rate brought 5,377 more clicks than Zoology's 9.02%.

37%

Zoology Enquiries Cost Less

A Zoology enquiry cost ₹809.42, about 37% less than an Anthropology enquiry at ₹1,285.67 — from a lower cost per click and a higher conversion rate.

45%

Anthropology Converted More Enquiries

Sapiens IAS reported 45% of Anthropology enquiries becoming admissions, against 40% for Zoology. That narrowed the cost gap at the last stage.

TZ3

Both Subjects Peaked Together

15th September to 31st October brought the most admissions for both subjects — 74 for Anthropology (22%) and 49 for Zoology (21.9%).

2

Course-Level Reporting Pays Off

Because each subject was reported on its own, the institute can see which subject brings more students and which brings them cheaper — and plan the next year with both in view.

What to Ask Before You Hire a Google Ads Agency for Your Institute

The lesson here isn't "every student should cost ₹2,522". Your subjects, city, fees, brand and team are all different — so your numbers will be different too.

The real lesson is that you should be able to see your cost at every stage, for every course: one click, one enquiry, one admission. These questions help you check whether your agency shows you that.

Questions Worth Asking Any Agency

  1. What does one enquiry cost me — for each course? Not one blended average.
  2. What counts as an "enquiry" in my report? A form? A call? A message?
  3. Which months bring me the most students? And is my budget planned around them?
  4. Which of my courses brings students cheapest — and which brings the most?
  5. How many of my enquiries become admissions? Does anyone check this with my counselling team?
  6. Are ad numbers and admission numbers shown separately? Or are leads presented as if they were students?

How We Report Google Ads Results for Education Businesses

"560 admissions" sounds great on its own. But on its own, it doesn't tell you which subject to spend more on next year.

What helps is what sits underneath it — 2,33,992 impressions, 26,459 clicks, 1,307 enquiries, two subjects at ₹2,807 and ₹1,970 per admission, and seven admission windows for each. That's the kind of detail we give every education business we run Google Ads for — coaching institutes, tuition centres and education consultants alike.

A Few Honest Notes About This Case Study

An Enquiry Is Not an Admission

An enquiry is a recorded Google Ads conversion — a form fill, call or message. The 560 admissions were reported separately by Sapiens IAS.

Admissions Are Client-Reported

We don't claim admissions as our own result. Admissions depend on counselling, course fit, fees, follow-up and the student's own decision.

Window Figures Are 2 and 1 Short

The seven windows add up to 334 Anthropology and 223 Zoology admissions, against reported totals of 336 and 224. We've shown both, unchanged.

A Few Figures Don't Divide Exactly

Some reported averages — cost per click, conversion rate and subject-level cost per admission — differ from direct calculation. We've kept the reported figures and shown the arithmetic.

Your Results Will Be Your Own

This is one institute's result, not a promise. Results depend on subject, city, competition, fees, landing page, budget and your team's follow-up.

Monthly Figures Are Averages

~₹1,17,697 and ~47 admissions a month are simple annual averages for context, not actual month-by-month figures.

What Sapiens IAS Says About Working With MgiWebzone

“

We have been teaching Anthropology and Zoology Optional since 2007. Running ads for two optionals is not simple — each subject has its own students and its own costs. MgiWebzone reported both subjects separately, so we could clearly see what an Anthropology enquiry cost us and what a Zoology enquiry cost us. The enquiries came from serious aspirants our team could work with, and the reports were simple and honest. That clarity helped us plan better.

Common Questions

Google Ads for UPSC Optional Coaching and Education Businesses: FAQs

How much did Sapiens IAS spend on Google Ads?

₹14,12,368.16 over 12 months — ₹9,59,088.96 for Anthropology Optional and ₹4,53,279.20 for Zoology Optional. As a simple annual average, that's about ₹1,17,697 a month.

How many admissions did Sapiens IAS get from Google Ads enquiries?

Sapiens IAS reported 560 admissions — 336 in Anthropology and 224 in Zoology — from 1,307 enquiries recorded by the campaign. That's about 42.9% of enquiries.

What was the cost per admission for Anthropology Optional?

₹2,807 of ad spend per admission, as reported. If you divide ₹9,59,088.96 by 336 yourself, you get about ₹2,854. We show the reported figure and the direct calculation side by side on this page.

What was the cost per admission for Zoology Optional?

₹1,970 of ad spend per admission, as reported — ₹837 less than Anthropology. Dividing ₹4,53,279.20 by 224 gives about ₹2,024, which we also show on this page.

Why did a Zoology admission cost less than an Anthropology admission?

The data shows two reasons: Zoology clicks cost less on average (₹41.94 vs ₹59.28), and a bigger share of Zoology clicks became enquiries (5.18% vs 4.61%). So a Zoology enquiry cost ₹809.42 against ₹1,285.67. Anthropology turned more enquiries into admissions (45% vs 40%), which narrowed the gap but didn't close it. The data doesn't show why Zoology clicks cost less, so we haven't guessed.

Which subject brought more students?

Anthropology. It brought 336 admissions against 224 for Zoology — 60% of all admissions, using 67.9% of the total spend.

What was the click-through rate for each subject?

13.59% for Anthropology and 9.02% for Zoology, or 11.31% across both. Both subjects' ads were shown almost the same number of times, so Anthropology got 5,377 more clicks.

What counts as an enquiry in this case study?

A recorded Google Ads conversion — a form fill, a call or a message after clicking an ad. An enquiry is not an admission.

Does MgiWebzone take credit for the 560 admissions?

No. The ads brought in the enquiries. Turning them into admissions was the work of Sapiens IAS's counselling team, so we show admissions only as a client-reported figure.

When did most admissions happen for Anthropology and Zoology Optional?

15th September to 31st October (TZ3) was the biggest window for both subjects — 74 Anthropology admissions (22%) and 49 Zoology admissions (21.9%). The first three windows, from 22nd June to 31st October, brought about 60% of each subject's admissions.

What does 48.35% Search Click Share mean?

It compares the clicks the ads actually got with the estimated clicks they were eligible to get. It was reported at 48.35% for both subjects. It does not mean Sapiens IAS got 48% of all searches for these subjects.

What does Absolute Top Impression Rate mean?

It's the share of the ads' impressions that appeared in the very first ad position, above the regular search results — 54.99% for Anthropology and 68.29% for Zoology.

Can one coaching institute run Google Ads for two or more courses?

Yes — this case study covers two optional subjects at one institute. The key is to report each course on its own. Here, a blended ₹2,522 per admission would have hidden that Anthropology cost ₹2,807 and Zoology ₹1,970.

How much should a coaching institute spend on Google Ads every month?

There's no single right number. As simple annual averages, Sapiens IAS spent about ₹79,924 a month on Anthropology and ₹37,773 on Zoology. The right budget for you depends on your courses, city, fees, competition and how many seats you want to fill.

Can a tuition centre with many classes use this approach?

Yes. A tuition centre that teaches several classes or subjects can report each one separately, to see which brings enquiries at a lower cost. Its numbers will be very different from a UPSC institute's.

Does Google Ads work for education and admission consultants?

It can. Our NEETell case study shows Google Ads for a NEET PG medical admission consultancy. For consultants too, it helps to report each course or route separately, and to keep enquiries and confirmed admissions apart.

How do I check if my Google Ads agency is giving real results?

Ask for your cost per enquiry for each course, what counts as an enquiry, how many enquiries became admissions, and which months brought the most students. If your report only shows impressions and clicks for everything combined, you're missing most of the picture.

Will my institute get the same numbers?

Not necessarily. Your subjects, fees, brand, city and counselling team all change the result. What we can do is show you your own numbers at every stage, for every course, so you know exactly where you stand.
